THANK YOU to IYC2012 for an incredible week in Denver!

Over 100,000 meals were packaged for Heart for Honduras in Canchias, Honduras.
From rocking out to Justin Bieber and Carly Rae Jepsen to dance parties, it’s obvious the students at IYC2012 know how to serve AND have fun!

Not only did we have an incredible time with the students at IYC but the CTW team had the privilege of spending time with the team at Heart for Honduras in Denver. Check out some of the incredible stuff they are doing to impact Honduras!

“HTH Founder Charlie Smith knew the importance of feeding people, but he also came to understand the greater good of creating community by eating together. It is not by chance that the dining hall is the center of life in Canchias.

Beyond feeding people, Heart to Honduras wants to help them learn how to improve their diet through better agriculture practices and new crops. Much of our Canchias property is devoted to model farming as many of the people we minister to live as subsistence farmers. We have developed tilapia ponds, an egg operation and a dairy farm. We’ve cultivated fields of corn, bananas, coffee and other crops. Through our farms not only are people being fed, but they are learning how to produce more food on their own land.”

An example of how the dairy farm is helping the local community:

As we develop the idea of a farm training center the operation will be used as a model of how others can set up a dairy farm of their own.

Milk, cheese, yogurt and butter are made and distributed not only for our own purposes (feeding School of Discipleship students, staff and group members) but also a portion is given to local schools to help aid in the nutrition of the children.

Visit www.hth.org for more information about Heart to Honduras!

On June 16, the Change This World team arrived to meet 200+ campers at Camp Geneva in Fruitland Park, FL. The campers eagerly welcomed us and began to unload the truck full of enough ingredients to package meals and feed 20,000 people. Over the next 2 days, we were able to share our hearts with them, and help inspire them to Change This World. All of the students and leadership staff were unbelievable! By the end of the event, the students had packaged over 20,000 meals! Thank you to Carol Welker and Sarah Baker for loving Haiti, and helping us ‘Change This World!’

Check out our facebook to see more pics from the event, as well as get more updates for future events!

For many of the students of Evans High School the devastation of the January earthquake in Haiti hit very close to home. With the largest Haitian population in Florida, 37% of the students had family members who were directly affected by the earthquake and its devastation. On early day approximately 70 students stayed after school and rallied together under the direction of teacher Lynne Newsome to package 11,664 meals. They exceed their goal by 1,664! It was great to see students in action, literally changing the world.

275 volunteers from the Lehigh Acres Kiwanis Club packed 65,006 meals for the hungry. What was neat about this particular packing event is that not only will the food be going abroad to help those in need but it will also be distributed to local food pantries to help the hungry here. Lehigh Kiwansis president Damon Shelor was excited about the day’s event remarking that, “It’s encouraging to see all the people come out for a community function and help the needy.” The Kiwanis Club had been working for over 8 weeks to raise money for the meals through car washes and pancake dinners. A special thank you to Publix, Winn-Dixie, Sweetbay and Atomi Tom’s for donating goods for the hardworking volunteers lunch.

Another success story!

A huge thanks to everyone who came out from the Central Florida United Soccer community to “Say NO to Starvation” to package meals for Haiti. We had a great time and most importantly got to help the people of Haiti who are in dire need. Since our packers were 99% athletes we had to throw a little competition in there. We raced to see which table could package the most meals in a 5 minute period and the Mexican Women’s National Team was the winner. Congratulations ladies! They won Love Haiti shirts for their whole team. Also, a special thanks to all the children who brought artwork to be packed in the boxes along with the meals.

We hope you enjoy the pictures from the evening. A special thanks to CFU and their coaches for canceling their regularly scheduled practices for the evening to come together and put on a wonderful event for the Winter Springs community.

CHILD HUNGER: Every six seconds a child dies because of hunger and related causes (Source: State of Food Insecurity in the World, FAO, 2004) 10.9 million children under five die in developing countries each year. Malnutrition and hunger-related diseases cause 60 percent of the deaths (Source: The State of the World’s Children, UNICEF, 2007).

This challenge is greater than one man and his vision. This challenge is greater than one organization. It will take all of our combined efforts to address this most pressing issue. The problem is not finding volunteers, or one of logistics, although these are real issues. We have the food solution. The real problem is finding the funding necessary to achieve the goal. We must continue to raise awareness of the issue of world hunger, specifically how it is affecting the children of the world, so that the resources that are available can be focused on what is arguably the most pressing issue of our time: that of STARVATION!

CFU Soccer Club is inviting the Central Florida Soccer Community to come together and bring their spare change out to Central Winds Park in Winter Springs on Thursday, April 8, 2010 from 5 to 7PM. We will be joined by the Mexico Women’s Full National Soccer Team and the UCF Women’s Soccer Team to prepare and package meals for Change This World to benefit the people of Haiti.

Our goal is to raise enough money to prepare and package approximately 100,000 meals. For example, the cost to prepare, package and ship:
100 meals is $25
200 meals is $50
400 meals is $100
4,000 meals is $1,000

We can reach our goal if we all come together and do our part…so mark the date on your calendar, bring your change and say no to starvation and hunger in the world!!

Change This World is the Central Florida Branch of Kids Against Hunger. The mission of Kids Against Hunger, a humanitarian food-aid organization, is to significantly reduce the number of hungry children in the USA and to feed starving children throughout the world. The organization’s approach to achieving its goal – the eradication of world hunger – includes the packaging of a highly nutritious, vitamin-fortified soy-rice casserole by volunteers at numerous locations within the USA and Canada, and the distribution of those meals to starving children and their families in over 60 countries through partnerships with humanitarian organizations worldwide.
Please make checks payable to Kids Against Hunger.

We look forward to seeing you on the 8th of April!

If you have any questions please contact Don Campbell at don@changethisworld.com.

Dear Haiti,

This month you have constantly been in our hearts and on our minds. We can’t believe the tragedy that befell you almost two months ago. We grieve for the loss of your precious children, your treasured family members, the wisdom that was buried in the rubble with your elders and the loss of your courageous leaders. How will you face the future? How will you rebuild? These questions overwhelm us and we cannot begin to fathom what they must feel like to you. If only there were words that could take away the pain and ease the hurt, but they are not enough. The tears that come, they are not enough. The compassion we feel, it is not enough.

So we must act and act now. We have 1,000,000 meals to give. 1,000,000 meals packed with love and hope for you and dreams for your future. We are dreaming for you the way that a mother and father dream for their new born child. We want only the best. We want you to experience love, hope, joy and peace. We want you to be safe and to prosper.

6,000 of our students took their time off of school to pack these meals for you. From all over the United States they came together with one purpose. They united to love you.

It does not seem right that tonight as these meals are loaded onto a container and depart for Haiti that we will go and eat meals and sleep in homes with beds and other luxuries. Please know that we will do more. We promise to not let the world forget. We promise to continue to stand by you and help as you rebuild the foundation for a new and glorious future.

We wish it was more. May this food give you strength.

In 2006, Doug and Jennifer Holliday founded Open Door Haiti as an effort of their local church, Seminole Community Church in Sanford, FL, with a focus on equipping leaders, assisting the poor, caring for the sick, planting churches and educating youth. Doug had first been to Haiti in 2003 and
him and his family share a deep and growing passion to impact the world.

Open Door School began in 1994. A new five room school building was constructed for Open Door in 2004 by Living Hope Mission. In 2007, a Feeding Center was constructed to begin providing a nutritious meal each day for every child in the school. In 2008, a second floor was added to the school building, doubling our enrollment capacity. And in 2009, Open Door School expanded its services to include a new Primary School in the city of Hinche. Enrollment has steadily grown each year, with over 450 pre-k through grade 6 students enrolled for the 2009-2010 school year.

Prior to Haiti’s devastating earthquake on January 12, 2010, the impoverished country had 380,000 orphans. This in a country of only 9 million people. With estimates well over 200,000 for those killed in the quake, those numbers will grow substantially. Will there be 50,000 more orphaned in this tragedy? 100,000? And with many of Haiti’s already established orphanages destroyed on January 12, the need for orphan care is overwhelming. The need is now. Which is why Open Door Haiti has been in the process of building an orphanage well before the earthquake began.

This is just some of the amazing work that Open Door Haiti is a part of. To find out more information on how you can help Open Door Haiti Change This World go to www.opendoorhaiti.com

Here at Change this World we are privileged to work with people like the Holliday’s to provide food for those who are in desperate need. It only takes $.25 to provide a meal to a child who is struggling to survive.

Let us be challenged today by the words of Helen Keller, “I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something that I can do.”
